Austin Coppock (AKA The Baron) will be teaching a 6 month series of classes on the fundamentals of art of astrology, beginning this Sunday, July 25th.
No prior knowledge is necessary, as the classes are designed to provide a thorough foundation in practical astrology from the ground up. Contemporary Western, Medieval, Renaissance European and Hellenistic Greek approaches to astrology all inform the classes, pulling the best from different phases of the tradition. There is a limit of 10 in-person students for this course.

CURRICULUM
Each of the month-long units is meant to build on those before it, providing a solid foundation. However, the monthly units are modular, and students who simply want to polish up one area are free to drop in for one month or two.
MONTH 1: PLANETS
Enormous spheres of matter and energy, the planets are the core of astrology. Understanding their nature is the backbone of the tradition. This 4 week class explores the energies and effects of the planets through use of astronomy, psychology and mythology.
MONTH 2: SIGNS
The concepts of Polarity, the 4 Elements, and the 3 Modes are fundamental to Astrology, as well as the majority of the world’s esoteric philosophy. Go deep into the mandala of the Zodiac, and understand why the Signs behave the way they do. In addition, you’ll learn how to accurately apply these concepts and predict personality types.
MONTH 3: ASPECTS
It is the geometrical relationship of the Planets to each other that weaves the web of the birthchart. The Aspects are the language of connection between the charts. Understand how the Conjunction, the Opposition, the Trine, the Square and the Sextile connect the Planets in the birthchart. We’ll also explore the relationship of every planet to every other planet, exploring the often neglected traditional concepts of planetary friendship and enmity.
MONTH 4: HOUSES
Houses ground the chart in the actual places where life takes place: finances, career, relationships, and more. Planets manifest in the style of the Signs of the Zodiac, and relate to each other by the Aspects, but you won’t be able to figure out WHERE in the life the will show up without a proper understanding of Houses.
MONTH 5: RULERSHIP/ DIGNITY
The Zodiac’s secrets are revealed by the hidden symmetry of Planetary Rulership. Understanding Rulership enriches your understanding of the Planets, Signs, Polarities, Modes, Elements and Houses. Intimately intertwined with Rulership is the system of Planetary Dignity. Ever wondered what it means that Venus is Exalted in Pisces, but in its Detriment in Aries? This is the class for you. Understand what Signs are easy for a Planet to work with, and which are difficult, and why.
MONTH 6: SYNTHESIS
Knowing the basics is one thing, but putting it all together is another. Month 6 is the transition from solid theory to praxis. The focus is on the practical subtleties of chart interpretation. Expect to explore case studies and go deep into your own chart.
Each Class Includes:
Audio Materials: Each student will receive a complete digital recording of each week’s in-class lecture and discussion. Each session includes over an hour and a half of material. This is a full CD of material each and every week of the course! Listen to it on your iPod, in your car, or while making sweet, sweet love.
Written Materials: Each student will also receive written supplements and book recommendations.
Visual Materials: Written and audio content is complemented by handy charts and diagrams.
Online Forum: Each student gets access to a private forum where they may post and get feedback on their weekly work, as well as have a chance to discuss relevant issues with Austin/Baron and several qualified assistants.

Classes will be held on a weekly basis at the Hoodoo Factory in Downtown Los Angeles. For those not in the area, the same material is available for online classes, which include an exclusive forum, regular feedback, and weekly audio downloads of class lectures and discussion. For the curious but anti-social, recordings of the classes are also available without access to the forum or any feedback.

I cannot recommend these classes highly enough; Austin is in a category by himself, and attending the first L.A. go-round was a fantastic experience.
“I had the great pleasure of being one of the Baron’s first live classroom students, and…well…I seriously cannot express how strongly his teachings have deeply changed my life.
I was always interested in astrology, from a very young age. But every resource I found about the subject painted it out to be some sort of hoytee toytee “woo woo” fantasy topic that never really hit the nail on the head. The horoscopes I were reading – while slightly accurate – seemed vague and empty.
I knew there was something more.
Fast forward years later and I meet the Baron through mutual friends. He tells me about an Astrology class he was putting together in town, and, since he was one of the most intelligent human beings I had met at that point, I had to jump on board.
Everything he explained made a very complex system seem simple, and easy to understand. Before I knew it, I had a solid understanding of the Astrology building blocks (planets, signs, houses, aspects, etc) and was able to connect with my OWN astrology chart for the first time ever.
Shortly after, I was reading astrology charts for friends, doing compatibility readings for people, and – this was huge – doing my OWN horoscopes in a way that made SENSE.
Since that time, The Baron has become one of my closest friends and we’ve continued more and more advanced training (stuff that I couldn’t even comprehend or knew existed when we first started) beyond Astrology and into truly remarkable aspects of the occult.
I can’t even imagine what he’s intro class must be like by now, as I know he’s taught and polished it several times with hundreds of students. My best guess would to be that it’s been broken down in such a way that you will learn more – fast.
If you’ve been following the Baron, reading his horoscopes online, or are just learning about his stuff for the very first time, I strongly recommend that you jump on board if he’s starting a new class. They don’t happen often, and when they do, they go on for a while (most likely a lifetime).
ESPECIALLY if that class is in person. Since he started the HooDo Factory, I’m sure he’ll be teaching more classes in person. And, if the same type of remarkable synergy (and friendships) occur in that class – which I’m sure there will be – then you are in for a real treat.
