Mercury in Pisces: The Whale's Song
February 28, 2011March 7th-13th: Red Lightning
March 9, 2011The waning Moon ticks down the days until the New Moon (March 4th) . On Monday, Venus slips out of her castle and into quirky, abstract and occasionally despondent Aquarius, where she’ll be until March 26th. This week’s prevailing conditions are foggy with a tendency to turn inward. Unfortunately, the traveling Mars-Mercury conjunction has pushed the pace relentlessly over last month, likely leaving number of connections unmade and tasks unfinished, and so the need to turn inward may well occur amidst of a series of seemingly urgent tasks.
As it stands, the Sun, Mercury, Mars and Uranus are all in Pisces, weighting the skies heavily toward water. Increased levels of precipitation in the physical world are likely, as is an increasingly personal and emotionally colored internal atmosphere. If you feel yourself strangely pull toward introversion, by all means make the time to remember yourself.
Venus in Aquarius: Sci-Fi Succubus
Venus enters Aquarius on Monday. Venus’ movement into Aquarius see the Lady exchange her official Capricorn Incorporated business suit and goat horns for a more eclectic and Aquarian steam punk ensemble.
While in Aquarius, Venus ties the passions tighter to the mind, stimulating conversation, inventiveness and helping us to appreciate the beauty of an elegantly woven idea as well as an interesting but dangerous experiment. Venus will be in Aquarius, playing the Mad Science Dakini until she dissolves into Pisces on March 26th.
The New Moon in Pisces: The Well of Return
“Returning to the source is serenity; it is to realize one’s destiny. To realize one’s destiny is to know the eternal. To know the eternal is to be enlightened. Not to know the eternal is to act blindly and court disaster.”
-Lao Tzu
The Moon chases the Sun and catches him in Pisces, the sign seen as two fish chained together at the mouth. The Moon chooses the dark fish while the Sun chooses the light. The two fish chase each other until the two are an indistinguishable whirling mass. The dark center gives off light around the edges, like an underwater solar eclipse. If you look closely, you can see silvery-gold energy ringing the black core is a serpent biting its own tail.
Looking into the ring is like looking into a well. Only now you’re down it. Sure enough, it’s a one way trip to the Undersea Palace of the Dragon King. Feared by the Hebrews as Leviathan, seen by Sumerians as Tiamat, battled by Thor as the Midgaard serpent, the ancient Ouroboros sleeps beneath the Sea of Dreams. At the bottom of the personal unconscious sleeps the almighty dragon, its palace the power generator for the surface whirlings of our psyches. Inside the palace we see the devil and angel at our mind’s foundations, each circling the other until all you can see is the Ouroboros again, biting its tail like it always is. The point of disappearance, of the mutual annihilation of opposites, is the still point from which we all issued, and still issue, before all of the polarity of daily life. Find that point this Thursday and curl up inside the dark of the New Moon.
When you get there, draw the pattern of absence, the veve of the mother, on the ground and enter quiet. Remember. In that silence find the clarity you’ll need to think through all of last month’s ideas and events. You must process all of the hopes and fears into the kind of high-test clarity you’ll need to approach the months ahead.
As you emerge out of the silent chamber, you’ll find that the undersea palace is crowded. Mercury, winged and clever, has had a difficult time find his way to the deeps of Pisces, while rugged, wet-suited Mars and his military submarine have had little trouble penetrating the depths. While Mercury urges for the necessity of a hundred swift connections, Mars points towards the resources available to achieve those objectives in the given time frame. You’re going to have to return to the surface for the month ahead- you better make plans.
