March 7th-13th: Red Lightning
March 9, 2011Mercury RX in Aries: Pyromancy
March 31, 2011The Full Moon in Virgo this Saturday will occur with the Moon closer to the earth than it’s been in 18 years. The Moon’s decreased distance from the earth will be visually exaggerated by the earth’s atmosphere, which will magnify the image of the Moon, making it seem not just closer, but A LOT closer. For those in North America, the maximum fullness of the Moon will occur behind a veil of daylight Saturday afternoon. But we’ll be feeling it on Thursday and Friday nights as it looms obscenely large above us.
There’s been much talk about this configuration. Let’s break it down.
Moon, what’s that?
In astrology, the Moon is the principle of the mother, the womb which creates a body for the soul. Thus the Moon is strongly associated with the process of giving form to an idea, an impulse, a spirit. It is the matrix of manifestation, the principle of the divine mother in raw form.
The Moon is also strongly associated with the emotions and the instincts. From the legend of the werewolf to the documented spikes of activity in mental asylums, police precincts and bars around the Full Moon, we have long known that the Moon can be meaningfully correlated to the action of the emotions and instincts.
All people share the lunar level of consciousness- the instincts, the primordial needs for food, security and procreation. Due to this commonality, the Moon is also associated with the masses- the mood of the many.
Super-Moon
The closer physical proximity of the Moon, as well as the Moon looming larger in people’s perceptions, turns up the volume on all of the Moon’s powers. It is a more powerfully creative Moon than most, but it will also boost people’s emotional and instinctual reactions. Out of proportion reactions are to be expected.
Bread and Fishes
This particular Full Moon occurs with the Sun in Pisces and the Moon in Virgo. This solilunar szyzgy asks the earth to reconcile the Sun in Pisces’ focus on the dream, the vision, and the big picture with the details of the material world revealed by the Moon in Virgo.
This Full Moon straddles the line between dream and reality- outlining the differences between the two but also offering a bridge. As a result, this Full super Moon puts more creative energy at our finger tips than most. Our capacity to bring things into manifestation is greatly increased. With the proper handling, the energy of this Moon can help shepherd dreams (and nightmares) into concrete form.
What Do We Do?
With Uranus’ ingress into Aries and square to Pluto stirring up so many traumatic changes, there’s plenty for the emotions and instincts to react to. Earthquakes, meltdowns, riots in the Middle East, and more all threaten to use the procreative energy of this Moon to generate nightmares. Change is a comin’ to the world system, and change don’t always come easy.
Struggle with yourself to do more than react to the situation(s) at hand. The energies being unleashed are not here simply to trigger fear. The Moon’s energies are those of generation and corruption, creation and destruction. While destruction is all that is in the news right now, remember that what is cleared away makes room, and that nature abhores a vacuum on every level. This Super Full Moon in Virgo is here to help us fill that void with our intentions, and it is up to us to purge our intentions of fear and its manifold spawn.
Take a look up at the Full Moon in Virgo, and consider the compassionate face of the divine feminine symbolized there, the fecund Lady impregnated only by the raw divinity of pure mind. She has a hundred faces, and 200 hundred ears- each which hear your wishes. So look to the sky, clear your mind, and make one.
HOROSCOPES
Horoscopes are not a real chart reading by an experienced astrologer. However, they are fun and can be reasonably accurate. Read your from Ascendant and Moon signs if you know them. If you don’t, find out. I’m a long time fan of the free chart generation software at astro.com.

“200 hundred ears”? That’s a lot.
SO HELPFUL
This posting of the Playboy Cover is so lame….just lowered my opinion of your astrological expertise.
haven’t risen past the lower lame brain High school Playboy magazine stage.
Sorry you feel that way. My intention is that the divine feminine is something people access in a million forms, many of them unexpected and seemingly mundane. I also used an image of White Tara and the Virgin as Santa Muerte. The point was to reveal the range of faces.
Woman has MANY faces – the fact that you are uncomfortable with some ought to tell you something!
Once again, your knowledge and wisdom shines through! With all that you give, the scales ought to be ready to right themselves and the universe give back to you! May it be all that you need and some of what you desire!!
This is going to make my birthday plans on Saturday much more interesting….much, much more interesting…
Thank you for the insight..
