Wheel of Misfortune: The Zodiac of Horror
October 13, 2011Astrology 24th-30th: Itchy Old Skin
October 25, 2011This week the Moon wanes over a changing line up of planets and dynamics. Throughout the week we move toward Friday’s Sun-Neptune trine, lending it a certain dreamy, distractable quality. Meanwhile, Mars and Venus move toward an aspect in Signs that echo last year’s lessons on love and war. Finally, Sunday sees the Sun descend into bowels of Scorpio, where it will be lighting the way through the sewers of the Sign for the next month. The week presides over a general shift from ideals to passions.
So Long, Saturn
As of last week’s Sun-Saturn conjunction, we’ve finally cleared the series of conjunctions to Saturn that characterized the first half of October. The multiple conjunctions with Saturn in Libra lent the aethyr a somewhat oppressive, anxious tone, yet also presided over the flowering of the #Occupy movement for economic justice, which reached a peak over last weekend as the Sun and Saturn rose together in the morning’s sky.
With the completion of these configurations, the first half’s objective concerns with responsibility, discipline and justice will be slowly replaced with a more personal, intimate and debaucherous set of themes. While this may be more fun, it is important to not let the vision of ideal arrangements merely disappear. It is the planets in Scorpio which spell out this set of affairs. Right now both Venus and Mercury are in Scorpio, and by Sunday, the 23rd, the Sun will enter the stingered sign as well.
Mars and Venus
Right now Venus, the lady of love and luxury, resides in Scorpio. Mars, old lord of war and steely virtue, stalks the savannahs of Leo. This is significant because this is the first time the respective planets of love and war have returned to the Signs they last retrograded in. Venus’ last retrograde occurred in Scorpio during the Fall of 2010, while Mars’ was in Leo during the Winter of 2010.
This simultaneous return of the two planets to the signs in which they last retrograde represents a review of what we’ve learned of the lessons handed out last year. With Venus in Scorpio, we’ll reflect on how well we’ve learned to handle intimacy and manage desire, while with Mars’ time in Leo brings us a review to what we have and haven’t learned about authentic power, courage and the potency of self-representation since the red planet went retrograde in the Winter of 2010.
This week sees Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Leo move closer to the square they’ll complete early next week, asking us to check in with how deeply we’ve internalized the lesson tossed at us.

The Sun will be in Scorpio until November 22nd.
Horoscopes
Horoscopes are not a real chart reading by an experienced astrologer. However, they are fun and can be reasonably accurate. In addition to referring to your Sun sign, read your from Ascendant and Moon if you know them. If you don’t, find out. I’m a long time fan of the free chart generation software at astro.com.

Yup! This Aquarian Sun has learned a lot about business relationships and office politics this year! Not very pleasant, but very useful. My rose-tinted glasses fell the f*ck off. A hard but good and useful lesson in naïveté ..
