Astrology 17th-23rd: The Threshold of Restraint
October 18, 2011Astrology Oct.31st – Nov.6th: A Good Start
November 1, 2011The week begins on a low energy note, waning Luna moving slowly toward Wednesday’s New Moon in Scorpio. On the way there, Venus and Mars close in on a passionate square that is interrupted by Mars’ aspect to cold Saturn. Wednesday’s New Moon in Scorpio refocuses affairs on the nightscapes of the arachnoid sign just as Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto and Capricorn move into their second trine. A lunar month of wasted time and transformation begins this week.
Aphrodite, Ares and Kronos: Coitus Interruptus
Mars in Leo and Venus in Scorpio, who have been moving into a passionate but ill-tempered square for the last week, are interrupted by Mars’ sextile to cold Saturn in Libra this Tuesday. While the Mars-Venus square ignites tempers and passions, Mars’ aggressive energy is otherwise obligated by Saturn’s demands. The Mars-Saturn sextile makes inconvenient demands for disciplined work early this week, just as we are so very excited about decadence and the profligate dissipation of our energies.
Mars and Venus make their aspect on Wednesday, the day after Mars completes his aspect with Saturn, seeding the New Moon and the rest of the week with its moody pleasure seeking and focus on relationship dynamics.
The New Moon in Scorpio: A Spider’s Egg
The New Moon in Scorpio occurs on Wednesday, gathering in the refuse from the last month and seeding the lunar cycle to come. You can expect the usual Scorpio themes to be in play- sex, decadence, death and change. There’s more, though. The New Moon in Scorpio catches an important configuration in its silent rays- Jupiter and Pluto’s trine. This angle between giant Jupiter and dark, miniscule Pluto is the 2nd of 3 in a series begun this Summer and to be completed this coming Winter.
The series of trines between Jupiter and Pluto describe a series of opportunities to find some stability on the unsteady ground of a changing world. They may even represent the chance to utilize the changes occurring to your advantage. Yet in order to do so, one must accept the noisy grind of tectonic plates, both figurative and literal. Being unhappy and scared is not going to stop the major changes from occurring. Globalization, the increasing scarcity of resources, climate change and the rest do not care how you feel. The question is not whether you like what the world is doing, the question is how you’re going to meet the gaze of the emerging era.
The New Moon in Scorpio seeds the coming lunar month amidst this dynamic, asking us to begin part two of the process of further acclimation. This dynamic affects more than just individuals- it is also a subject of concern for nations, and whole regions.
In the US, Barack Obama is trying to get a jobs bill through to ease the dismal employment figures in the US. In Europe, leaders bicker desperately about how to find the money to keep the sovereign debt crisis from spiraling further out of control. In both of these cases, the next lunar cycle holds a chance, represented by the Jupiter-Pluto trine, to pad the rich world’s descent onto a more level global playing field.
The US and the Euro-zone had the same opportunity to go after jobs and stabilize debts this Summer, the first time that Jupiter trined Pluto, but flubbed it. This 2nd opportunity, with Jupiter retrograde, is another chance to cushion the inevitable. But this chance will not last longer than the lunar cycle which begins this week. By the time we get into the end of November, we’ll be knee deep in the next Mercury retrograde and in the vortex of another pair of eclipses. Nations and individuals alike have until the middle of November to set a course before the next of history’s whirlpools grabs ahold.
Horoscopes
Horoscopes are not a real chart reading by an experienced astrologer. However, they are fun and can be reasonably accurate. In addition to referring to your Sun sign, read your from Ascendant and Moon if you know them. If you don’t, find out. I’m a long time fan of the free chart generation software at astro.com.
