Aspects: Connecting the Dots

Aspects: Connecting the Dots

Aspects are the relationships between the planets, measured by the angles they make in the sky.  Aspects bring the power of two (or more) planets together, fusing them, highlighting contradictions, or bringing them into conflict.   The 5 classical aspects each represent a different type of connection between two planets.  These 5 types of aspects are divided into soft and hard aspects, describing both harmonious and tense relationships.  Mythologically, the aspects are the language of love, war, friendship and enmity between the planetary gods.

The aspects: the conjunction, opposition, trine, square and sextile, are what weave the planet’s power into the web of energy we experience here on earth.  The more familiar you are with what happens when one planet’s energies intersect with another’s, the more the information given in this guide will benefit you.

Conjunction: 0 Degrees

Opposition: 180 Degrees

Trine:  120 Degrees

Square: 90 Degrees

Sextile: 60 Degrees
