This relatively auspicious week sees Neptune’s direct station on Wednesday, Thursday’s Full Moon in Taurus and the movement of Mars into Virgo.  This week sees the Full Moon in Taurus  preside over pleasant, stabilizing moments,  Yet bucolic moments are ever-so-slightly stained with the worrisome shadows of tomorrow’s unsolved problems.  Make the most of the week, but do not assume things will continue along the same trajectory.

Dream Awakens: Neptune’s Direct Station

Retrograde since early June, Neptune stations direct on Wednesday, November 9^th in the last degrees of Aquarius.  This turn for the direct shifts Neptune’s wavelength from disillusionment back to wrapping the mind in the subtle swaddling clothes of dream.   Neptune’s direct motion will take the other blue planet through the last degrees of Aquarius and by February, into Pisces, whose seas Neptune will call home until 2025.

Sattva Guna: Full Moon in Taurus

The Full Moon in Taurus comes November 10^th, it’s silver light challenging the transformative Scorpio Sun with the bovine virtues of stability and growth.  This is a particularly auspicious Full Moon, as it takes place in the sign sign as benefic Jupiter in Taurus, triggering the manifestation of benefits from our efforts to become steadier and more concrete in our efforts at personal growth over the last year.  Contrary to the chaotic reputation of Full Moons, this particular lunation will be more generous, pleasant and stable than virtually any other time during the month.  Take advantage of its transient grace by using what power you have to stabilize your situation.

While rather auspicious, this Full Moon does not mark an entrance to any heaven.  To the contrary, it is a bright point in an increasingly complicated month.  For although still weeks away from retrograde, Mercury currently travels the shadow of the near future’s confusions.  Not only that, but under the light of a still fat Moon, Mars sneaks into Virgo, the site of his next retrograde.

Mr. Fixit:  Mars Enters Virgo

     Just as the Moon goes fat and full in Taurus, Mars sneaks into Virgo. Mars leaves the wide savannahs of Leo on the 10^th, trading in his lion-pelted protection for Virgo’s handy tool box.  In Virgo, Mars’ heroic energies take on the more humble form of the fixit man.  Mars in Virgo directs us to identify and fix problems, to refine our efforts and privilege precision over raw power.

Mars in Virgo is more concerned with power’s practicality and ability to solve the problems at hand. Mars in Virgo’s strength is in his tools- how they were created, what they do and where to apply them.  Archetypally, Mars in Virgo highlights the connection between “the warrior” and “the smith”.  This makes him indispensable when your equipment breaks down.  He is the Geek Squad that comes to fix your computer, the clever but awkward engineer, not to mention the ruggedly handsome plumber who shows up to work on those leaky pipes.

With cracks large and small appearing in systems near and far, there is, perhaps, no more appropriate a form for the red planet to take on right now.  If the world needs anything right now, it is problem solving.  It is therefore appropriate that Mars will be in Virgo until July of 2012, going retrograde on January 23^rd and spending the winter quarter and more that way.  We won’t have to deal with Mars’ retrograde this month or next, but be on the look out- the degrees Mars travels this Fall are those he will return to during his winter retrograde.  The observant will see this winter’s issues taking shape.
