America: 2011 and Beyond
July 5, 2011Portland Lecture + Workshops
July 16, 2011This week is dominated by the fat, Full Moon in Capricorn, dripping silver and dropping heavy knowledge. The first half of the week is a bit oppressive, marked by Venus’ emotionally heavy square to Saturn on Tuesday, the equally weighty conjunction of the Moon to Pluto in Capricorn on Wednesday and the hefty Full Moon in Capricorn on Thursday night. Friday and the weekend are a little lighter and faster, with an emphasis on planning and communications.
Full Moon in Capricorn
The Full Moon in Capricorn on Thursday night highlights both the opportunities and the problems spinning through the aethyrs this July. The dramatic lunation will spotlight the tension between our personal lives and our professional aspirations. The internal and external illuminate each other, revealing the interdependence of emotional foundations and tangible accomplishments.
Out of the Tunnel
The Full Moon this week is the first New or Full Moon since May to occur without an eclipse. This provides an real exit from the dark, twisty weirdness so many have experienced for the last month and a half. Spat out of a wormhole of changes, plenty of people find themselves on uncertain ground. This Full Moon illuminates the stark outlines of our actual position, providing us the data we need to begin making solid progress.
Citizen Saturn
This particular Full Moon is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, and it is the ponderous planet whose wavelengths dominate the week. Saturn stationed direct in June, but the somber planet’s message was, well, eclipsed by all the of the eclipses. For the rest of the year we’ll see Saturn striding slowly forward, leaving his opposition to Uranus and square to Pluto behind. Saturn’s movement forward, clear of interference, heightens the planet’s power over cause and effect, action and consequence, plan and progress.
The Fool’s Enemy
This week’s combination of influence drops us squarely into The-Way-Things-Are. Not the way we would like them to be, and not the way that they could be, but The-Way-Things-Are. The ancient enemy of hopes, dreams and vain desires, The-Way-Things-Are is a formidable adversary, the great devil of most people’s psyches.
This week the great and terrible god-and-devil The-Way-Things-Are speaks, announcing the obvious. The World is changing and will continue to change. The globalization of capital will continue moving jobs around, dethroning established titans and raising up unexpected contenders. Technology will continue to change the way we interact with each other and do business. The way we produce, consume and dialogue with media of all types will continue to mutate. And so on and so on.
If you’re waiting for the boat to stop rocking, you’re going to be disappointed. The World does not exist for us to abide in static peace. It is a great wheel of challenges, and we can either admit that we’re in the game, because we were born into the game, or live in denial. We can either commit to try and keep pace with the blistering speed of the times, or we can complain as the World moves on. It comes down to accepting the advantages and limitations of your position or not. If you can accept where the World is and where you are, you can plan strategic moves and get real results. Forget about tomorrow’s wished-for salvations and armageddons. Things are as they are. Leave Hope and Fear behind, make a plan and move forward.
Next
After this week’s delivery of stern Saturnine messages, we’ll move into a relatively productive couple of weeks. The coast is relatively clear for the rest of July, but another storm waits for us in August. Another grand cross forms up, this time triggered by truculent Mars in Cancer and simultaneous Mercury retrograde. August 2nd, to be precise- just in time for the debt ceiling deadline in the US. Well done, Obama. Or not.
So get your shit squared away. Commit to a few concrete goals and plan to make some bankable progress before August’s shitstorms start up.
Horoscopes
Horoscopes are not a real chart reading by an experienced astrologer. However, they are fun and can be reasonably accurate. In addition to referring to your Sun sign, read your from Ascendant and Moon if you know them. If you don’t, find out. I’m a long time fan of the free chart generation software at astro.com.
Oh, and if you’re still concerned that your sign has changed, get a little clarity here.
