This week sees several changes.  Mercury, flying through the last degrees of Libra, enters Scorpio on Wednesday, intensifying and sharpening the tone of communications and the wavelength of thoughts.  The Moon waxes fat and silver throughout the week, approaching and achieving fullness on Friday night, just in time for the weekend.  The Full Moon in Aries comes Friday, mere hours before the Sun slips into Scorpio.  In the background of the week, Mars, in Scorpio for over a month now, makes aspects to both Jupiter and Uranus, connecting the river current we’re riding to the deeper sea beyond.

With this week we judge our attempts to achieve and maintain balance over the last month.  As the week ends, we’ll feel our finger tips slipping away from Libra’s grip on rational balance and plunge straight into the sewer tunnels of Scorpio for a hot date with everybody’s favorite Lady in Black, Ms. Venus Retrograde in Scorpio.

Mercury in Scorpio

On Wednesday Mercury steps into the tunnels of Scorpio.  Here the messenger leaves behind Libra’s ambivalence for the focus of the Scorpion’s hypodermic.   After entertaining a variety of options during Mercury’s time in Libra, we’ll be pulled to narrow our scope and discard distractions if we’re to maintain control of our descent into the season. Although focused, Mercury in Scorpio has an almost compulsively pessimistic tendency.  Don’t let healthy skepticism turn into fearful paranoia, as a balanced mind will be your finest asset for navigating the challenging emotional truths of the weeks ahead.

Big Moon

The Full Moon comes this Friday.  This szyzgy occurs between the Sun in last degree of Libra and the Moon at the very end of Aries.  This particular Full Moon spotlights the tension between the ideal of balance and the need for action.  Imagine a tightrope walker, moving at a slow but sustainable speed.  That is Libra.  Now, imagine that he’s being shot at.  He’s going to have to move faster than he was comfortable with, but if he moves too fast, he’ll fall to his dooooom.  The need for balance cannot be ignored, but it neither can the call to action.  Which leads us to…

Cephalopod Zen

Just after the Full Moon, the Sun plunges into Scorpio, bringing the solar spotlight into the depths we’ve been exploring, emotionally, for the last month.  The Sun’s Saturday move into Scorpio, on the heels of Mercury’s ingress days before, sees us enter the middle phase of the season.

We leave the Libra attempt at rational balance behind and are asked to enter the scorpionic mode of consciousness.  Whereas Libra is future oriented and goal directed, Scorpio is of the moment, but every moving into the future.  The mind key here is the momentum of the present hurtling into the future, becoming the future with each passing second.  Lodge your awareness here and move, feeling balance, accomplishing goals, the mind riding the momentum of the present.  Too much analysis impedes accomplishment here, turning into a false balance of hopes and fears about the future, each of them contrary to the dynamic zen called for.  Let the octopus be your totem, each of its 8 limbs with a brain at its base, each brain connected to all of the others as well as a central hub.  Be the dynamic awareness of yourself in your environment, moving simultaneously in multiple directions, manipulating, testing, learning and accomplishing in multiple directions at once.
